Publishing in a peer-reviewed journal is one of the most effective ways for researchers, clinicians, and practitioners to contribute to the body of knowledge in holistic aromatherapy, validate their clinical findings, and build professional credibility. The International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy (IJPHA) offers an excellent platform to share your knowledge and expertise. Writing for the IJPHA will give you exposure within the international aromatic community.

 

The International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy (IJPHA) is an educational resource published by Enhancements Aromatherapy LLC. The IJPHA is produced on a quarterly basis. We welcome submissions of articles, research, news, tips, books, product reviews, and conference recaps.

 

Each thematic issue of the IJPHA weaves together clinical practice, case studies, profiles of essential oils (with a focus on lesser-known but commercially available), relevant research, integrative practices, business information, and/or book and product reviews. The list of topics evolves as the journal progresses; submissions on topics selected by the IJPHA will be given priority. We do not guarantee placement in a particular issue until one month prior to publication.

 

Most important! Methods recommended in an IJPHA article should follow safe and responsible practices. Please refer to the Alliance of International Aromatherapists Guidelines for safe practices. Articles that discuss internal, neat use, and low dilutions will be considered, provided that such use, if the practitioner/author is qualified at a level that supports such use, is within the practitioner/author's scope of practice, the practitioner/author can show sound reasoning for such use, and is within safety guidelines.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Assisted Technologies

The International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy (IJPHA) recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence tools in research and manuscript preparation. To maintain transparency, integrity, and scientific accountability, IJPHA enforces the following guidelines regarding AI usage:

Authorship Eligibility: AI tools, large language models (LLMs, such as ChatGPT), and generative software do not meet authorship criteria. They cannot take legal or ethical responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, or originality of published work, nor can they manage copyright or conflict of interest agreements. All listed authors must be human individuals who are fully accountable for the entire content of the manuscript.

Disclosure Requirements: Authors must explicitly disclose the use of AI tools in their submission.

Writing, Editing, or Formatting: If AI tools were used to assist with language editing, translation, or structural drafting, this must be stated in the Acknowledgments section, specifying the tool used and the nature of its assistance.

​

Data Analysis or Figure Generation: If AI tools were used to collect, analyze, or visualize research data or to generate diagrams, this must be clearly detailed in the Methods section.

Author Accountability & Accuracy: Authors are entirely responsible for all text, data, citations, and images in their submitted work, including any content generated or altered by AI tools. Authors must carefully verify that AI-generated citations, claims, and data are accurate, authentic, and free of plagiarism or fabrication.

Peer Review Confidentiality: Peer reviewers and editors are strictly prohibited from uploading unpublished manuscripts, draft materials, or confidential research data into third-party AI platforms or software. Reviewers must respect the absolute confidentiality of author submissions prior to formal acceptance and publication.

Indexing, Archiving, and Authorized AI Platforms: The International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy (IJPHA) partners with trusted database providers, including EBSCO, to index, archive, and disseminate published content.

As part of our commitment to promoting accurate, evidence-based research in holistic aromatherapy and botanical medicine, IJPHA participates in authorized licensing agreements (such as the EBSCOhost AI Exchange). Under these agreements, fully published, peer-reviewed articles may be utilized to inform and train vetted academic and clinical AI platforms (e.g., via Retrieval-Augmented Generation [RAG] and curated dataset licensing).

 

This inclusion ensures that AI tools in health, academic, and scientific fields generate insights rooted in verified, peer-reviewed literature, rather than unvetted or open-web sources.
